Renewing a Work Permit

1. Renewal application must be completed and submitted at least 5 weeks prior to expiration of work permit with the supporting documents. The application is submitted through the BVI's Online Work Permit System.  HireBVI continues to offer work permit filing services which makes the process seamless for employers and employees, alike.

  • Work Permit Card
  • Certified copy of applicant passport photo and signature page
  • One passport sized photo
  • Copy of immigration stamp within passport
  • Good Standing of Employer (Inland Revenue Department, National Health Insurance and Social Security Board)
  • Certificate of Earnings (Inland Revenue Department, National Health Insurance and Social Security Board)

2. If Immigration status expires prior to renewed work permit, applicant should follow up with Labour Department on your renewal application. In the meantime, an extension ($25) should be sought from Immigration Department.

3. There are costs associated with the renewed work permit.  See scale below:

Special consideration has been made for domestic workers; they pay 1% of annual salary.

Earnings up to $25,000 is calculated at 3%
Earnings between to $25,001 to $50,000 is calculated at 5%
Earnings above $50,001 is calculated at 7%
Earnings in excess of $150,000 is calculated at 7%

There is a fee cap of $10,000, which means that work permit will not cost in excess of $10,000.  An application fee $50 in addition to the $75 fee for issuance of the work permit card is also applicable.
