Overview

A Live-In Caregiver is being sought to provide compassionate, professional and reliable care to an elderly client in a comfortable home environment.

The ideal candidate will have a nursing or healthcare background, experience caring for elderly clients, and a genuine commitment to providing care with patience, dignity, respect and kindness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and feeding as required.
  • Assist with safe mobility and daily activities around the home.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support.
  • Prepare simple, nutritious meals and assist with feeding when necessary.
  • Administer and/or assist with prescribed medications in accordance with the client’s care requirements.
  • Monitor the client’s condition and promptly communicate any changes in health, behaviour, appetite or general well-being to the family.
  • Follow established care routines and instructions.
  • Perform light housekeeping, laundry and general tidying to maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
  • Maintain appropriate records or notes regarding care provided and any significant observations.
  • Respect the client’s privacy, dignity, confidentiality and independence at all times.

Requirements

  • Nursing background or relevant healthcare qualification strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience caring for an elderly person or working as a caregiver, nurse, home health aide or similar role.
  • Comfortable and competent with medication administration.
  • Caring, patient, compassionate and trustworthy.
  • Dependable with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to assist safely with personal care and daily activities.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is an asset.
  • BVI Red Cross Home Basic Course, HLSCC Home Aide Course or equivalent is an asset.
  •  BVIslanders, Belongers and Work Permit Exempt applicants preferred.

Live-In & Working Arrangement

This is a full-time live-in position. The successful candidate will reside in the client’s home and will have scheduled working hours and appropriate rest periods.

The caregiver must also be flexible and willing to provide assistance outside of normal scheduled hours when reasonably required, particularly if the client needs unexpected assistance during the evening or overnight.
The position requires someone who understands that elderly care can sometimes require flexibility and who is willing to respond appropriately when additional support is needed.
