Role Summary
The role will provide support to VISMA’s Compliance Department in ensuring the Authority maintains compliance with applicable maritime legislation, industry standards and conventions.
The Compliance Officer will support the strengthening of the Authority’s compliance framework, through monitoring and control activities, policy development, documentation management, and internal audit reporting. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to building a robust culture of compliance, risk awareness, and regulatory
excellence within the Authority.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support the Compliance Department in building, implementing, and continuously improving the compliance framework for the Authority.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with maritime and shipping registry laws, international conventions, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in developing, reviewing, and maintaining compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
• Conduct internal compliance reviews, risk assessments, and gap analyses.
• Liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding compliance matters.
• Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting systems.
• Assist in preparing compliance reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies.
• Support audits, inspections, and investigations as required.
• Provide guidance and training to staff on compliance-related matters.
• Keep abreast of compliance industry best practices, laws, regulations, and international maritime standards applicable to the Authority’s functions.
• Assist with monitoring and ensuring compliance with international sanctions regimes, assist with development of sanctions screening systems
Qualifications & Experience
• Associate’s Degree, or equivalent relevant certification in Compliance, Law, Maritime Studies, Risk Management, or a related field;
• Professional Certifications in the following areas will be considered an asset: CCEP, CRCMP, ISM / ISPS Auditor certification, ISO compliance certification, ICA, AML / CTF Compliance;
• A minimum of 4-5 years’ relevant experience in compliance, regulatory administration, audit, or a regulated environment;
• Experience supporting the development, implementation of compliance policies, procedures, or internal controls would be an advantage;
• Knowledge of maritime legislation, international and domestic, and associated compliance standards, maritime Financial Regulatory Reporting and shipping sanctions; and
• Comprehensive knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Anti-Terrorism Financing (ATF), and ISO standards.
